Let your interests guide you - Henning Weigand

Like every morning, I start my day with coffee and a bowl of Muesli. Coffee makes my day – actually I have too much of it. But alongside some ginger tea and ideally a run in the fresh air, it’s simply a great way to make the morning energized and motivated.

How do you start your day? How do you appreciate and embrace the day to achieve small or great things? An army general gave some great advice to the graduation class to – if you want to change the world - to start the day making your bed. Well, we don’t always have to change the world, but a little coffee and making your bed are a good start getting motivated.

How do you motivate yourself? In my view, people enjoy most and are best at things that interest them, things that interest you, make the biggest difference. It starts as a child in school and accompanies us through our lives. But it’s not necessarily just the big things in life such as choosing a profession or a hobby. Every day, there will be small things that get you excited, things we often don’t make ourselves conscious of. For an instant they are there, they get you excited, raise your attention, and – way too often – they are gone again right away and we forget them. I carry pen and paper with me to note down, when I experience such moments or small hours. Noting them down will allow me to make myself conscious of them and let them guide me, which I found a great way to get motivated, alongside a delightful cup of coffee...!

A Saturday of music and Spring - Henning Weigand

Recently I have been listening to music again more. I went through my old CDs and found some good stuff that I used to love, but that kind of made it off my mind a bit in my busy day to day life. Also found some old playlists on Windows Media Player, re-discovering old tunes and old memories connected to it. When I was unmessing, I found old concert tickets of amazing artists such as Gary Moore, Queen, Muse, a Perfect Circle and Radiohead. It’s been over a year now, since last I could go to a concert, shortly before the pandemic started to hit us all. I saw John Petrucci whose signature guitar I have been having now since the 90s, just recently I found the invoice of back when I bought it in the US. Really thinking that I should be playing guitar more again – just too distracted by too many things to find enough time. Back in those days when I taught myself guitar, I played 4 hours or so every day, and spent time jamming with friends. Well, music and this wonderful Spring weather definitely made my day. Waking up, the day showed as a beautiful Spring day, and that motivated me to get out on my bike and go for a ride in the fresh air first thing. And to make the day more meaningful, I picked up my acoustic again to enjoy this Saturday of music and Spring.
